摘要:In past decades, string theory has emerged as the prime candidate for a quantum unification of electro-magnetic, nuclear and gravitational forces. Geometric aspects of string theory, and in particular the existence of extra dimension, shed light on black holes and the geometric origin of particle physics. We review certain aspects of these developments and their impacts on quests to gain insights into the fundamental workings of nature.
报告人简介:Prof Mirjam Cvetic is an prestigious theoretical physicist in string theory, including the application of geometry to string theory, black holes in string theory, and the implications of string theory to particle physics. Due to her outstanding achievements, Prof Mirjam Cvetic was elected as the member of the American Academy of Arts and Sceinces in 2023. She is also a recipient of the Friedrich von Siemens Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in 2020. After her long serving as an Editor of Physics Letters B from 2000 to 2020, Prof Mirjam Cvetic has been appointed as the Lead Editor of Physical Review D since 2020.
